Robert Stillman Memorial FXTAS Research Fund

Fragile X-associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS) is a genetic adult-onset neurodegenerative disorder, affecting carriers of the Fragile X premutation. FXTAS affects cognition and mobility, and progresses at varying rates in different individuals. FXTAS was first described in 2001 by Dr. Randi Hagerman and her colleagues at the UC Davis MIND Institute. Robert Stillman began having symptoms of FXTAS over 15 years ago. He suffered from tremors, ataxia (poor balance) that led to numerous falls, severely contracted muscles, and eventual loss of all mobility. His cognition also declined over time, resulting in significant dementia in the last seven years of his life.

Your gift in memory of Robert Stillman will support the Fragile X-associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS) research at the UC Davis MIND Institute led by Dr. Hagerman and her team, so that ultimately a cure for this devastating illness can be found.
