The UC Davis Student Farm is a 23 acre educational working farm where undergraduate students get practical, hands-on experience in organic farming and gardening, sustainable agriculture, research and leadership. Students come from all majors and in this inter-disciplinary setting learn from staff, faculty and experienced peers. The Student Farm includes a 9 acre organic Market Garden, an organic vineyard, a cut-flower and floraculture program, and an Ecological Garden where school children and teachers from the region learn from college students about ecology, gardening, nutrition and sustainability. In our organic Market Garden students manage, produce, and harvest over 50 different crops all year long which they sell to the UC Davis community through a CSA, farmers market, and on-campus dining services. In addition, the Student Farm has a food donation and gleaning program aimed at addressing food loss and supporting students experiencing food insecurity and hunger. We donate student-grown produce to the campus Pantry, Basic Needs Center and other student centers on campus. Student Farm lecturers have taught Introduction to Organic Agricultural Production, Farm and Garden Based Education, and Alternatives in Agriculture Seminar courses. Gifts of all sizes support student leaders and a more sustainable food system for us all. To learn more: http://asi.ucdavis.edu/programs/sf
